Dampier is 21klm west of Karratha overlooking the the ocean and the islands of the Dampier Archipelago. There are shelted beaches lots of water activities, fishing, whale watching. scenic cruises and brilliant sunsets. We stayed here to watch the Stairway to The Moon from Hearson’s Cove the tide is amazing how far it goes out and the beach is all shells. The Red Dog statue is on the way into town and at the library you can read the story of his adventures. Dampier is Australia’s highest value port and second highest volume port with the gas plant, Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore and Salt Operations.
