Hahndorf, Adelaide Hills

Hahndorf is Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement built in 1839. The main street retains a strong German flavour with its small goods, bakeries and German style pubs. Its only 20 mins from Adelaide and you can spend all day here exploring this lovely town. Its dog friendly with some of the stores even having dog bowls out the front. Miss Elly and I came on the weekend and it was really busy we stopped and had a coffee and a bee sting cake for morning tea.

German influence is very apparent in Hahndorf and is seen physically in the traditional fachwerk architecture of the original surviving buildings. There are also many restaurants in the town serving German cuisine. There are so many quaint shops here worth investigating so allow a good half day here.
