Kalgoorlie – Boulder WA

Kalgoorlie – Boulder is in the goldfields and  was settled in 1893 when 3 Irishmen discovered gold. The population is 30,000 it has heritage buildings and the amazing Super Pit  which is gold mine approximately 3.6 kilometres long, 1.6 kilometres wide and 512 metres deep. We also went to Hannans North Tourist Mine and as it was not busy they let me take Miss Elly in as well for a look around its full of history old buildings and machinery.

Hannan St is known for the pubs there used to 44 but a lot have closed and been turned into shops. I sang at The Kalgoorlie Hotel Miss Elly got to sit beside the stage and watch it’s a great old pub on the corner with a great balcony to sit on and have a meal and watch the world go by. While I was there it was the annual Saint Barbara’s Parade down the main street the big dump truck from the mine was one of the floats.

We also took a drive out to the lakes at Kambalda East 55 kms away they are really amazing. From the summit of Red Hill you have a bird’s eye view of nearby Lake Lefroy they go land sailing on this lake.
