Port Macdonnell SA

This is a really pretty town and the scenery along the rugged shoreline is amazing. Take the drive out Lighthouse Rd to Cape Northumberland and to South Australia’s most Southerly Point then follow it along to Finger Point the beaches and cliffs are stunning so many places to take photos its hard to pick the best. Port Macdonnell is known as Australia’s Southern Rock Lobster Capital there’s a Maritime Museum where you can learn about the shipwrecks, penguins and history, Old Customs House which is now a private residence. There is a lot of Fairy Penguins here and they come in each evening to Cape Northumberland there is a viewing platform here purpose built so you can watch them. Its also here that the first mainland lighthouse in SA was built in 1858

Port Macdonnell is only 28klms from Mount Gambier and 31klms from Nelson so its a good trip to do in a day out exploring and you can always get some fresh fish and chips to enjoy on the waterfront.
