Derby WA

Derby is known as “The First Town In The Kimberley” its located on King Sound near the mouth of the Fitzroy River. Derby offers a variety of services and is the gateway to the Buccaneer Archipelago and the Gibb River Rd. The Derby Jetty experiences the highest tides in Australia some in excess of 11 metres. Fishing, crabbing and watching the sunset are popular activities. we stayed at the Kimberley Entrance Caravan Park and Ian the owner was really helpful, informative and friendly even helped me book my trip to the Horizontal Falls to make sure I was there on a good tide to get the best of the experience. Lots of shady spots here and Pet Friendly. There’s lots to see here the Prison Boab Tree which is over 1500 years old, the loungest trough it is 120 metres long and was built around 1917, Frosty’s pool built in 1944 as a bathing area for troops stationed in the area during the second world war, Wharfingers museum, Kimberley School of The Air, fishing, scenic flights and tours into gorges. A great place to stop for a few days and explore.
